The Douglastown Detour homepage
It’s been a quiet couple months here but I’m very excited to announce that an audio project I’ve been involved in for the past two years is just about ready for the public. Join Kathy Kennedy and I at the Douglastown Community Centre tomorrow (Thursday, July 26, from 3 to 4 pm) as we unveil a preview-version of the Douglastown Detour audiotour app for iPhone and Android that we have been developing behind the scenes for the past two years.
The project idea was to preserve and present some of the stories of Douglastown’s people and places in a novel format for diverse audiences: a self-guided walking tour in the form of a smartphone app. Listen to this teaser from the app’s intro where retired school teacher and community leader Gary Briand tells us all about how the app works:
This event will be part of the storytelling tea that will take place tomorrow (Thursday, July 26) at the Douglastown Community Centre from 3 – 4 p.m.
If you have an iPhone or Android phone and a pair of earphones, bring them and we’ll load a preview version of the app on your phones that you can try out in the Douglastown village core. The final version will be ready for public download on the iTunes and GooglePlay stores before the end of summer. Stay tuned for that.
See you tomorrow!
